At IGO, we collaborate closely with Traditional Owners of the lands where we explore and mine. These efforts are framed by Native Title agreements. We are dedicated to creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Every action we take is agreed upon and carried out transparently with Traditional Owners.
Our commitment is to create meaningful employment and contracting opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the communities we support. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates.
Each year, we provide inspiring opportunities for Ngadju people to join us at our Nova nickel-copper-cobalt Operation in Western Australia's Fraser Range. Our two year Ngadju Employment Traineeship Program offers entry-level positions, allowing Trainees to define their own success with full support from the IGO team.
At IGO, we're dedicated to making our recruitment process fair, equitable, and accessible for everyone.
If you need any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, please reach out to us confidentially at inclusion@igo.com.au.
IGO is committed to the ongoing development and progression of all our people. We have various ways to support you throughout your employment and journey with IGO.
At IGO, all employees working on country attend Cross Cultural Training specifically designed by Ngadju and Whadjuk Noongar Traditional Owner groups.
Since the commencement of the Nova operation in 2017, Cross Cultural Awareness Training has been delivered by Ngadju Elders on Ngadju Country. This course has been built on respect, trust and meaningful engagement with Ngadju Elders offering our people the opportunity to learn and grow from the two-day experience.
In 2024, we proudly launched a uniquely tailored and thoughtful Whadjuk Noongar Cross Cultural course for our people working on Whadjuk Noongar lands. We’re grateful for the artifacts, stories, and photographs shared by team members with ties to Whadjuk Noongar lands and how they support this learning.
Our vision for reconciliation is the development of strong and deep relationships and engagement with our host Traditional Owner communities, where we recognise, respect, and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritages and deliver real social and economic opportunities.
We want to build on our ongoing commitment to create respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their cultures and lived experience, and enhance opportunities for equity both within and outside our organisation.
Our Innovate RAP will drive our continuing journey of reconciliation by formalising the work that many of our people already do and drawing together people from across our workforce in a considered and positive process of engagement, reflection, and action.
“I have enjoyed my role working in Administration, and particularly appreciate the great team that I am a part of and how well we get along. Everyone on site is so genuine and nice, and the traineeship has really allowed me to learn and build my confidence. I’ve also signed up for my Cert III in Business Administration which is a great opportunity for me to further develop my skills. If you’re considering applying for the traineeship, I’d say just do it! It will be the best decision of your life and will allow you to get your foot in the door to learn more about mining and how it all fits in with the community.”

“My favourite part of the traineeship has been being able to try different roles to get a better idea of what I ultimately want to do. When I first started, I thought I would end up in Exploration, but I have since gotten into Maintenance and have found that I really enjoy it. I would strongly encourage you to apply for the traineeship and have a crack – it’s not every day that you get an opportunity like this, there is a bright future ahead for you at IGO!.”
Matthew McKenzie Ngadju Trainee
